An Assistant Professor primarily teaches program-specific courses. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching a requisite number of graduate classes, assisting with the development of course material, supervising postgraduate students, regularly publishing journal articles, serving on committees, attending conferences, writing proposals for grants, delivering presentations, and handling other administrative duties. He/she should also ensure internships and placements for students. An Assistant Professor teaches online and/or at local campuses, and may be required to work a flexible schedule, and as and when required as determined by college leadership. The workload percentage for Teaching and Service/Administrative assignments may vary between categories according to the needs of the College.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of an Associate Professor include supervising, advising, research, monitoring, keeping records, presentations etc. Mentioned below are some duties and responsibilities of a professor inside and outside the classroom:
- Prepare lectures, syllabus, and labs for their classes
- Grade the class assignments
- Prepare, execute, and grade the exams
- Calculate the grades of the students
- Advise the students outside the class
- Research new learning techniques and introduce them to students
- Supervise and evaluate teaching by graduates and colleagues
- Lead educational trips and attend various seminars
- Student counselling
- Supervise and help graduates in their research work
- Evaluate PhD written and oral exams
- Write proposals for funding agencies
- Draft papers for academic journal publication
- Presentations in various institutes about higher education
- Research new developments in education
- Give public lectures
- Ensure internships and placements for all student, build industry partnerships and conduct experiential activities for students.
- A practical approach in teaching should be adhered to which involves 70% teaching and 30% service/administrative/research/scholarship tasks to promote hands-on learning, real-world application, and problem solving
- The working hours of the teachers in full employment should not be less than 40 hours a week for 30 working weeks (180 teaching days) in an academic year.
- Necessary for the teachers to be available for at least 7 hours daily in the University:
- At least 2 hours for mentoring of students (minimum 15 students per coordinator) for Community Development/ Extra-Curricular Activities/ Library Consultation in case of undergraduate courses.
- At least 2 hours for research in case of postgraduate courses, for which necessary space and infrastructure should be provided by the University/College.
- The minimum direct teaching-learning process hours should be 16 hours
- A relaxation of 2 hours in the workload may be given to Professors, Associate Professors who are actively involved in extension activities, administration.
- They are eligible for paid vacation, holidays, and sick time in accordance with University policy
- He/she should teach 3-4 subjects based on educational qualification and work experience
- Teach minimum of 16-20 hours per week, including introductory courses, core courses and specialization courses in the School of Management. All courses must be taught in accordance with established University -approved curriculum, policies and College requirements, and in compliance with regulatory and accreditation agency requirements and standards.
- Based upon individual College needs and requirements, teach one or more program residencies per year; teach and lead clinical courses; participate and supervise counseling skills and activities.
- Implement instructional strategies appropriate for the learner and content, differentiating instruction to meet diverse learner needs; promote student success by using creative and diverse teaching methods and strategies.
- Communicate with students regularly, using a variety of mechanisms both written and verbal; ensure availability to students based on the learning environment and according to University policy and instructional standards; guide and direct students to resources that support student success, such as the learning management system, academic and professional resources, and University resources.
Qualification and Experience:
- UGC NET/SLET/SET is minimum requirement with master’s degree in relevant subject with at least 55% marks from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in academics/industry/research
- Record of Significant management and leadership experience, successful working relationships with internal and external constituencies, including faculty, students, alumni, and the larger professional information management community.
- In the case of research experience, good academic record and books/ research paper publications/ IPR/ patent record are desired.
